Activity Ideas:

While many schools are comfortable with hosting events to educate their parents and families on services, supports, and resources offered by the school, consider other methods of reaching parents and families with the information.

Parent Digital Newsletters

Consider using the TXEL Portal Parents and Families Newsletters which has information about resources that support improving English language acquisition and academic achievement of students. Send the newsletter in its entirety or choose the sections that fit your community.

Informational Videos

Create and share short videos in which you show parents how to support their child at home. Make sure to include links or QR codes to what is shared in the video. Consider sending links to the T3 Series Parent Engagement which has information about resources that support improving English language acquisition and academic achievement of students. Send the newsletter in its entirety or choose the sections that fit your community.

Social Media Pages

Create a page for the bilingual education department and share timely information, resources, or activities that students are participating in as part of the bilingual education program.

Virtual Parent Meetings

Build community while accommodating busy schedules or transportation challenges of your families of EB students. Make sure to use interpretation tools so that all parents can participate fully.

Dedicated Space on
School/District Website

This space can be used to find information about the bilingual education program model/s offered with other information about the services provided.

Parent Activities In-Action

School staff hosted parent meetings to discuss LPAC, TELPAS, and STAAR. They offered meetings in the morning and afternoon to allow for more parents to attend.

Additional Considerations

  • Make sure presentations are available in the languages of parents.
  • Consider offering in-person and virtual meetings to accommodate parents schedule and transportation needs.

Dumas ISD partnered with local workplaces to conduct Title III parent meetings. A benefit is more parents attend meetings since they are hosted at a convenient time and place.

Additional Considerations

  • Record presentations to share with parents unable to attend
  • Use Title III funds to provide “light snacks/refreshments” as permitted and demonstrated in the Funding Guidebook (p. 17)
