Lever 5 Essential Action:


Collaborative development open to all stakeholders of a curriculum, assessments, and resources aligned to the ESL program goals.


5.1

Curriculum is researched and standard-based, addressing the goals of the ESL program.

5.1.b - Curriculum that targets and supports second language acquisition and literacy development.



5.2

Curriculum includes:
• asset-based resources
• Linguistically Sustaining Practices
• addressing students’ prior knowledge
• a multilingual perspective that embraces translanguaging
• meaningful practices that target the language domains

5.2.a - Authentic, asset-based resources, including Linguistically Sustaining Practices addressing all learning modalities are provided in other languages, as available.

5.2.b - High quality, authentic, supplemental resources provided in a variety of languages.



5.3

Curriculum and resources ensure that campus and district level assessments:
• include Linguistically Sustaining Practices
• are linguistically accommodated, as needed
• support student agency
• include alternative methods of assessment such as portfolios or other student work
